Top 12 Resources where to Learn How to Invest
What are the Top 12 Resources where to Learn How To Invest?
Where do you go when you're looking to learn about investing? We've got you covered! These sites and resources offer everything you need to know about investing.
Fundamental Analysis in Investing
Fundamental Analysis is important in Investing to evaluate whether the asset (e.g. stock) is of high quality or low quality and whether the asset is overvalued or undervalued.
Resource #1:
Koyfin - a financial data and analytics platform for researching stocks and understanding market trends
Koyfin offers free accounts and gives you comprehensive fundamental data on stocks and other assets. Data includes company revenue, earnings and profit margins to evaluate if the firm is gaining customers and whether it is making money or not. Most other websites for fundamental data are quite cluttered and make it hard to find the relevant financial information that you seek. Not so on Koyfin. You see Financial data and analytics at one glance and up to date. My experience has been great and I can recommend them.
.
Resource #2:
FinViz - financial visualizations, stock screener and fundamental data
FinViz has a lot of interesting visualizations of financial data. Their maps shows the recent performance of companies in a heatmap that is additionally divided by market sectors such as technology, energy and so on. FinViz offers a good stock screener that lets you rank stocks based on different fundamental and technical data. You are looking for good dividend stocks? You will quickly get a list of stock names. You are looking for undervalued firms based on relative multiples such as price to earnings ratio, price to sales ratio or price to book ratio? The screener will show you a filtered list of results. Another helpful visualization is the Groups view that lets you view relative performance of different sectors. I use this visualization quite a lot to identify potentially beaten down sectors that are worth investing in for a return to the mean.
.
Resource #3:
Yardeni Research - massive financial database on the economy, financial markets, stock market fundamentals, and more!
The depth and breadth of financial data of Yardeni is insane. Liquidity is very important in financial markets. Easy credit conditions such as lower interest rates and more money printing lead to a tailwind for risk assets. This data can be seen in the global money and credit section of Yardeni. For example, it shows the monthly balance sheets of major central banks such as the FED, ECB, BoJ, etc. Furthermore, there is a lot of data on the S&P500 stock index and its sectors. This also includes fundamental data such as the famous Shiller P/E-ratio.
Technical Analysis in Investing
Besides Fundamental Analysis, Technical Analysis in Investing is important because it shows the effects of all buyers and sellers in the marketplace on the asset price.
.
Resource #4:
Tradingview - Charting and Technical Analysis for a variety of assets such as stocks, commodities and bonds
I use Tradingview heavily to monitor trends on a higher timeframe, identify support and resistance clusters, observe classical charting patterns for a variety of different assets and also analyze the relative valuation of assets (what is in an uptrend, what in a downtrend, what is at support, what is at resistance, etc). What is also really helpful is to set price alerts at important levels. That way you get automatically notified, if a certain level is reached in an asset such as a public stock or commodity (e.g. gold).
Sentiment Analysis in Investing
Psychology is very important in investing. The probabilities of making money rise if you go against the crowd at certain inflection points in markets. This can be observed by studying the sentiment in the market. What are market participants thinking, what are they feeling: are they euphoric or fearful? Market tops and bottoms are created with extremes in sentiment.
.
Resource #5:
Twitter - specifically "FinTwit", a unstructured community of investors, traders, market participants and speculators
Twitter is a social media platform. Within Twitter there is an unstructured community called "FinTwit" by participants. There is no formal group you can join. You have to build your network yourself and look for people that are real investors, traders and market participants. There is a large variety of people regarding asset classes. There are people interest in public stocks, private equity, commodities, bonds, real estate, precious metals, crypto assets and so on. One way to build a "investing news" stream for yourself is to follow those people on the Platform. Don't know where to start or who to follow? One starting point is to follow me on Twitter and then identify the people that I follow and overlap with what you are interested in.
