Compound interest calculator
How much could your savings grow with regular investing and compounding?
How compounding works
Each year your investments earn a return, and that return earns a return of its own the following year. In the beginning almost all of your wealth is the money you put in. After enough years, growth overtakes contributions — the point where compounding starts to do the heavy lifting.
What the inputs mean
- Starting amount — what you invest today.
- Monthly contribution — what you add every month.
- Expected return — the average yearly return after costs. Broad stock indices have historically returned roughly 6–10% a year over long periods, with large swings in between; a mixed portfolio less.
Your savings rate, what investing it could become, and your financial-independence number.
